855 Cedar Street, Alameda, CA

The Current Day -- 1963 to Present

Unit B

Unit B is entirely on the second floor and consists of 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom.

Unit C

Unit C consists of 3 bedrooms and 1 bath on two levels.

The current Assessor’s Map shows that the configuration of the houses on the original Speddy property has not changed since Joseph Kitterman built his house at 853 Cedar St. in 1959.

In 1963, Joseph and Marie Kitterman
sold 855 Cedar St. to Denver and Imogene Townley.

In 1970, the Townleys sold "the big house" to Kurt and Ruth Lorenz and in 1972 the Lorenzes sold 855 Cedar St. to the present owner.

The configuration of the inside of 855 Cedar St. has not changed since 1949 when Joseph Kitterman converted it into a triplex.  The first floor and basement are Unit A and the front doors of Units B and C are on the second floor.  Unit C continues onto the third floor and is a two level unit.

All of the units have their front doors off of the Foyer (what Henrietta Theresa Speddy would have called her "Reception Hall".)

Unit A

Unit A consists of 4 bedrooms and 2 & 1/2 baths on the first floor.

In studying the floor plans, it is easy to see that each unit still retains the large rooms, the storage and the closets that Mrs. Speddy's interviewer of March 17, 1901 found so remarkable.
